Submissions for The Doyles Award, the Gold Coast’s longest running and most established annual painting prize, are closing on 25th May to artists of all ages, styles and abilities.
Named after the famous Australian landscape artist d’Arcy William Doyle, The Doyles carries a sizable $20,000 prize pool across three competition categories – Landscape, Figurative and Still Life.
Event Director Gillian Grove said the Doyles is an important fixture on Australia’s cultural calendar, so any artists thinking about submitting work need to get in quick as online entry forms must be submitted on 25th May before 5pm.
“For almost two decades, the Doyles has stood for inclusivity, participation and the celebration of all that is wonderful about Australian art,” says Ms Grove.
“Our landscape category boasts a $10,000 first prize, and based on previous exhibitions, we expect to exhibit over 500 artworks on opening night.
“In addition to our competition categories, there are awards for school-aged artists and a $1000 people’s choice prize.”
To date, the Doyles has received a large number of worthy entries and attracted a number of high-profile sponsors for the 2022 event.
“It’s a real testament to the increasing stature of The Doyles and its significant impact on, not just the Gold Coast, but the Australian cultural landscape,” says Ms Grove.
As a not-for-profit event, The Doyles relies heavily on funding support which includes platinum sponsors Bond University, SkyRidge Living, Left Bank Art Group and Attwood Marshall Solicitors amongst others.
“We are always seeking a broader sponsorship reach to keep The Doyles thriving and to continue our important work of fostering and encouraging Australian artists,” said Ms Grove.
