According to local legend, a picturesque park in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast is home to its very own ghost.
The so-called “Broadbeach Gardens Lingerer” is thought to be the ghost of Ned Harper, a local man who lived on the Gold Coast during the 19th century. Born in 1828, Ned was well-respected within the local community. He spent his days logging cedar trees, working alongside the Indigenous Australians who lived in the area, and building a wharf for a ferry that would service the Nerang River.
When Ned passed away in 1896, he was buried at the top of a hill overlooking Broadbeach’s Cascade Gardens. You can still find his grave there today, marked by a large plaque and gravestone amongst the flowerbeds.
Many believe that Ned’s spirit continues to wander the park. In fact, several locals have reported sightings of an elderly man wearing 19th century clothing, working in the gardens. They say he has no shadow, and is there one minute and gone the next.
