Chances are that if you head down to Wagga Beach for a surf, you’ll leave pretty disappointed. Located in the New South Wales town of Wagga Wagga, this inland beach is known for being still and flat.
According to some locals though, return at five o’clock, and it could be a very different story!
Apparently, if you head down to Wagga Beach at exactly five o’clock, you’ll be just in time to see a giant wave rush down the Murrumbidgee River from the Blowering and Burrinjuck Dams. Catch the wave just right, and you can ride it for almost 100km all the way to Narranderra!
Seems far-fetched? That’s because it is. That’s right, there is no Five O’Clock Wave! Instead, the Five O’Clock Wave is a tall tale cooked up by locals looking for a laugh at the expense of gullible visitors – many of whom really do head down to the beach at 5pm in search of this incredible wave!
